What is Hapkido?
Hapkido is called “The art of coordinated power.” Hap meaning coordinated, Ki meaning power and Do meaning way or art. Hapkido students learn to focus and redirect an opponents energy as well as their own by utilizing some of over 3000 joint manipulations, locks, throws, kicks, strikes and over 360 pressure points. Hapkido’s focus on self defense and redirection makes the strength of the opponent almost irrelevant.
Hapkido’s power comes from circular, non-resistive movements that are designed to redirect energy rather than try to match it. Instead of trying to defeat strength with strength, the student learns to control the opponent and manuever them into a position where their strength is no longer important. Hapkido’s emphasis on flow and redirection makes it a perfect match for anyone concerned with self defense that may not have the physical ability to overpower. Hapkido provides physical conditioning which improves balance, posture, flexibility, muscle tone, joint strength and increases the students confidence and discipline.
